Housing

If you would like housing arranged for you, options include a double- or single-occupancy bedroom in a shared student apartment (offered on a monthly basis only) and boarding in a private home (limited availability). Prices are listed on the Costs page and you may make your selection on the Housing Request section found on the Application. Housing requests will not be processed until you have paid the application fee, tuition deposit, and $200 housing fee (family board).

Housing will not be assigned until the tuition deposit, housing security deposit and placement fee (if required) have been received. Students must pay full rent in advance 30 days prior to the start of a Monthly Program or Summer Session. Housing assignments are made on a first come first served basis. Single rooms are limited in availability and cannot be guaranteed. If you have requested a single room, payment for a single room must be received with your housing request. Students will otherwise be placed in double room housing until the single room supplement is paid. Single room assignments are made on a first come first served basis, determined by the date payment for a single room is received. Monthly Program housing is based on availability.

Housing assignments are subject to cancellation if full rent payment is not made by the due date. In order to be considered then for a new housing assignment a new request must be submitted along with full payment of rent. Late applicants are required to submit full payment of rent with their housing request. Please note: rent payments will be due prior to receiving your housing assignment. Housing requests may be withdrawn if rent payment is not received by the due date.

SAI is unable to offer housing to the following:

- weekly program students

- students with spouses or children

- pets

The majority of SAI students are 18-22 years of age. We have found that placing students over 25 with students between the ages of 18-22 has not been successful for either age group. Therefore, we encourage students over 25 to contact our partner agencies to arrange for private studio or one bedroom apartments directly with the agency. (see below) SAI will provide assistance in locating studio or one bedroom apartment options, which are usually available at a slightly higher rate of rent.

There are often multiple older students enrolled, which allows SAI to place those students together in shared housing. It is not our intention to deny housing to any enrolled student, but we do place students of similar ages together in order to create a successful experience. If an older student is unable to bear the slight added cost of private housing, in cases when SAI does not have an older student apartment available, SAI will make every effort to nevertheless provide housing for that student.

Please note:
1) The housing fee is non refundable. Deposits for apartments are refundable 1 month from departure. Please note: Deposits will not be refunded for canceled enrollments. You will receive your housing assignment by email. Rent must be paid in full to this California office before you move into the apartment.

2) Monthly rentals are not guaranteed and are subject to availability. Often we can only offer a private studio or 1 bedroom and prices will be higher than the posted student shared apartment rents.

Family Board, Monthly and Summer Session Students: will receive assignments about a month before the start of classes. Family Board students will be provided with their landlord's telephone number and must contact them at least one week before your arrival in order to arrange the date and time you plan to move into the apartment. Your landlord will arrange to meet you at that time to let you in.

The apartments are not owned by the school, rather they are arranged with private landlords nearby. Housing is scattered throughout the center of Florence and most apartments are within walking distance of the school. Apartments are supplied with bedding and linens, basic cooking supplies and furnishings. Apartments vary from 1 to 6 bedrooms, sharing bathrooms, a living room and kitchen. Private Apartments (Weekly/Monthly only): Those seeking their own private apartment should contact these agencies in Florence that handle private rentals for our students. Arrangements for private apartments are handled directly between the student and the agencies. Make sure you notify the agency that you will be attending Apicius - The Culinary Institute of Florence, and enrolling through the US office. If you are arranging your own housing, please notify our office.
